National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) Draft Constitution (2001)
  1. Every citizen has the right –
    1. to form, to join, to participate in the activities of, and to recruit members for, a political party, of their choice;
    2. to campaign for a political party or cause;
    3. to free, fair and regular elections for any elective public office established in terms of this Constitution;
    4. to participate in peaceful political activity intended to influence the composition and policies of the Government;
    5. freely to make political choices;
    6. to participate, through civic organisations, in peaceful activities to influence and challenge the policies of Government;
    7. To uphold and defend this Constitution;
  2. Every citizen who has reached the age of eighteen years has the right to vote, to do so in secret, to stand for election for public office and, if elected, to hold office.
  3. For purposes of promoting a multi-party democracy, the state must provide funds to political parties.
