Abstract:

NOW, THEREFORE, under and by virtue of the powers vested in the President as aforesaid, I do, by this my Proclamation, alter to Friday the 15th day of February, 2008, the day on which a nomination court will sit at each of the places specified in the said Proclamation 2 of 2008 for the purpose of receiving nominations of candidates for election to the office of President and as members of Parliament and of the governing bodies of local authorities.

WHEREAS, by Proclamation 2 of 2008, published in Statutory Instrument 7A of 2008, I fixed the day for the holding of an election to the office of President, and a general election and elections for members of the governing bodies of local authorities and provided for the places and day on which nomination courts would sit and the days on which polling would take place;

AND WHEREAS it is provided by section 38(4) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13] (No. 25 of 2004) that, subject to section 58 of the Constitution, the President may, by further proclamation in the Gazette, alter any day, time or place that he has fixed in a proclamation under the said section 38;

AND WHEREAS I consider it desirable to postpone the day specified in the said Proclamation 2 of 2008 for the holding of nomination courts without, however, altering the polling day fixed in the said proclamation:

NOW, THEREFORE, under and by virtue of the powers vested in the President as aforesaid, I do, by this my Proclamation, alter to Friday the 15th day of February, 2008, the day on which a nomination court will sit at each of the places specified in the said Proclamation 2 of 2008 for the purpose of receiving nominations of candidates for election to the office of President and as members of Parliament and of the governing bodies of local authorities.
