MDC secretary general remanded in custody to 9 July

June 20th, 2008

Via an MDC Press Release:

MDC secretary general, Hon. Tendai Biti has been remanded in custody to 9 July on a trumped up treason charge and three other counts.

However, Attorney General, Bharat Patel will announce at 4 pm today whether to grant Hon. Biti bail or not. Hon. Biti is also the MP for Harare East.

Magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe, remanded Hon. Biti to 9 July claiming that there was reasonable suspicion that he committed the offence.

Hon. Biti faces four charges, one of treason and three others under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act).

On the treason charge, he is accused of authoring a document titled “The Transition Strategy” which the police allege was aimed at “discussing the overthrowing of a legitimately elected government”.

Hon. Biti was arrested on Thursday 12 June 2008 at the Harare International Airport upon arrival from South Africa.

The MDC maintains its considered view that the charges against Mr Biti are maliciously politically motivated. The regime wants to frustrate both the internal cohesion of the MDC and its election campaign. The regime knows fully well that its time is up and is trying to postpone the inevitable, its departure. Come the 27th of June we will finish this regime of thugs and war lords, and usher a new era of jobs, health care, education and general prosperity.

We maintain that Mr Biti must be released immediately, the MDC and the country as a whole needs his services.

I have admired the MDC’s style. They have made smart maneuvers. I think they will again be clever about their decision on the runoff.

Election or not,the Mugabe regime is doomed, and so I think the MDC will have a few extra cards to play in this crazy political game. Whatever they do, I’m sure they will do with the best intentions for the people of Zimbabwe.

Please MDC don’t give up for all of our sakes, just heard on our news that there’s talking of calling the election off. We must go on as sad as I am about this horrendous things that are going on.This Mugabe has lost the plot long time ago and sadly his puppets need to be prayed for as they really don’t know what they are doing.May the Lord bring this down soon and never to be repeated as this will go down in our history books.I continue to pray for this end to come soon when I can come back home and start helping to build this beloved country of ours.

‘Not in a thousand years’ Ian Smith once said about blacks gaining independence. Mugabe has done the same to Morgan Tsvangirai, beating him, belittling him and his party to the extent that at one time Happyson Muchechetere, a mere TV PRESENTER interviewing Tsvangirai, disrespectfully refered to him as simply ‘Iwe Morgan.’

This is the final straw albeit the difficulties of bullying and murder. Don’t give up now MDC. The mad man’s rhetoric has gone out of hand. He now can’t believe the power of the pen. We will show him how mighty it is. Wasn’t Goliath TKod by ‘Little’ david.

There has never been any wisdom, might nor intelligence in this outgoing demagogue, only insecurity, vanity, insanity and conceit which was fuelled by the fear of those sycophants he had around him for twenty eight years.

Lets give him a mighty kick up his you know what!
