Riot police raid MDC headquarters; Morgan Tsvangirai has sought refuge in the Dutch Embassy

The BBC’s news ticker on their website is saying that Morgan Tsvangirai has had to seek refuge in the Dutch Embassy in Harare. I don’t know if his need to find refuge is related to this Press Release which has just arrived from the MDC:

About 30 armed riot police today raided Harvest House, the MDC Headquarters where hundreds of victims of political violence were seeking temporary shelter.

The reasons for the raid are still unclear, but some of the political violence victims, most of them with serious injuries and in plaster, fled when the armed police besieged the MDC offices.

The police arrested everyone who had remained in the building, including seriously injured political violence victims who could not run away, and drove them away in a bus. They looted MDC office furniture and computers containing party information.

About 1 000 people, fleeing raging State-sponsored violence across the country, had sought temporary refuge at the MDC headquarters. Zanu PF has unleashed a terror campaign against the people for overwhelmingly voting for President Morgan Tsvangirai on the first round of polling on 29 March.

President Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday announced the MDC would not take part the run-off election scheduled for 27 June 2008, describing it as a “charade.”

It’s time to organize a global boycott of South Africa. This website has been formed to help inspire people to organize a boycott against the 2010 World Cup: http://zimsolidarity.blogspot.com/

Why doesn’t Mr Tsvangirai require all his supporters to vote for Mr Mugabe? That way they will all be much safer from persecution. The world will understand that the near 100%”election” result will have been rigged as a snub by the opposition and not by foul play by Mugabe who will have been outsmarted and we will all have a good laugh. He’s going to win anyway… why not let him win magnificently so the sham can be seen in greater perspective?
