We mourn, alone, for the death of our nation
April 5th, 2005
Well it’s been a few days since I last clocked in with “This Is Zim” and it is taking supreme energy to sit down and write for anyone who cares about an update.
Selina is now a zombie; she’s been prescribed valium. Since the announcement of results from the obviously rigged election, she has been an unstoppable fountain of tears. Her village was warned that the zanu nazi youth would come and get them if they voted for the opposition. Her husband, an activist, has already fled and we are busy trying to get the children out too. The nazi youth have already been deployed and the village is in a state of siege.
Selina’s grief is shared by the majority in Zimbabwe and, while we mourn with the world over the passing of a great religious leader, we also mourn, but ALONE, for the death of a nation.
It is quite remarkable how the world’s media and the attention span of its audience is so limited. Zim was a two day wonder, and because the day of elections seemed so peaceful we lost the attention we so ba
dly needed to put pressure on the monster, a geriatric and decayed despot. We never take the tyrant’s threats lightly, for whenever he has leveled threats in the past, he has followed through. He warned the farmers, look at them. He has warned the opposition supporters and look at them.
The last warning came in the zanu adverts in the local papers. He states that ‘land reform’ was a success, and now he’s coming to take over industry. These are no idle threats as the business community was warned prior to elections to prepare for a 51% takeover. The monstrous dictator is determined to reduce this once flourishing paradise into a nation of starving beggars, utterly dependant on a ‘benevolent despot’ for handouts of food when the majority of people are on the brink of starvation. A starving person has no time to dabble in politics, as he is too busy trying to survive.
When this madman looks in the mirror what does he see? How does he sleep at night with his hands so steeped in blood? Does he dream of Zimbabwe’s children with sunken faces and distended bellies? How does he stand before the eyes of the world and so slickly lie? How dare he enter the sanctity of a church and pretend to honour God’s will?
Right now it is very difficult to see any future and I fear we will be forced to abandon our beloved Zimbabwe.
