Results of a sham election - ZEC figures

On March 29th 2008, Robert Mugabe polled total votes of 1,079,730. Somehow, despite mass intimidation, gross violence, increasing poverty, murders, and hyper-inflation, Robert Mugabe’s popularity accelerated faster than our inflation figures (which is quite something) and he managed to secure himself an extra 1,070,539 votes on 27 June 2008. He has effectively doubled his vote.

Do not forget that Morgan Tsvangirai withdrew from this poll and a call to boycott the elections was circulated and supported in many areas (see Sokwanele round-ups on the day of the polls here and here). The Pan African Parliamentary observers  have independently also confirmed an extremely low turnout, but this is not reflected in the turnout figures below.

There are two rows per province in the table; the yellow highlighed row shows the results for March 29th 2008, excluding the other two candidates who competed on that day. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) have not released the results on a constituency basis so we cannot make detailed comparisons.

These thugs are hilarious. We all knew they were going to fix the figures, but you would think they would at least try to make the figures some what plausible. This just demonstrates how they are mentally completely out of their minds because they can’t even tell how stupid their actions are.

So interesting to see exactly the same voter turnout in Manicaland and Matabeleland South… you have to laugh… it must have been such a headache working it out!! I wish we’d had a fly on the wall in the crowd waiting for the ‘inauguration’… must have been anxious moments there!

    Dear Sokwanele,

Robert Mugabe’s increase in votes received since March almost matches Zimbabwe’s inflation rate! This is just pathetic. Mugabe has been renowned for his cunning finesse over the years but these “results” have all the finesse of a hippo charging into water.

If you go to the poll alone you should win and lose 100% votes. How Evil can a man be just to protect his war crimes, beating and killing people to vote for him.If you eat alone you will cough alone, human beings are not for human but for God, He is watching your steps sonny.

Your above post and table of results plus a few
choice words of my own sent to every SADC, AU, UN, UNSC and Trade Union official’s contact
e-mails that I know - about 165 people. Thought this might make me feel better, calmer,
less hysterical - it didn’t - oh well!*?
I guess we now have no choice but to wait and see what Mbeki’s latest blocking moves achieve.
As Mbeki’s wife and The First Shopper are related, do you think they’ll visit the same
Egyptian shops together while their husbands
hold hands and smile to the world stating that
there is still, “No crisis in Zimbabwe.”

    @ Owekay

    My sentiments exactly.
But tell me how many of these emails are actually getting through?
All of my emails to the AU contacts bounce back via spamfilters.

I think the AU have now set strict filters on their mail boxes because my emails & petitions have also bounced back.

No need to send e.mails. This silence at the AU is very loud! Catch my drift? Mugabe almost got involved in a street fight with one of the reporters today. That’s loud enough methinks!
