Zimbabwe’s main police station hit by blast: police

August 3rd, 2008

Via AFP:

A bomb blast at Harare’s main police station damaged offices but there were no casualties, authorities said Sunday, as talks on resolving Zimbabwe’s political crisis were set to resume.

“A bomb exploded at Harare central police station yesterday (Saturday) at about 1845 hours (1645 GMT),” national police spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena said in a statement.

“The army bomb disposal unit summoned to the scene recovered the remains of a detonated explosive and one live explosive.”

He said the explosives had been “planted” in the first floor which houses offices of the criminal investigation department, adding that 13 offices and a communal kitchen were affected.

“Doors and furniture were flung open by the force of the explosion and items of furniture were strewn all over the floor,” Bvudzijena said, adding that nobody was hurt in the blast.

The police complex is adjacent to one of the capital’s busiest bus stations.

The explosion came hours before negotiators for the ruling and opposition parties were due to resume talks on Sunday for a power-sharing government to end Zimbabwe’s political crisis.

A spate of fire bombings occurred last year targetting police stations, with police blaming the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change party, which rejected the claims.

I can just see who is going to be blamed for this.

    Watch this space carefully.

They found the device…and all fingers are going to be pointed at MDC.

I am sitting here puzzling over this. Surely the CID know who were in their offices recently and surely identifying someone capable of carrying a bomb and not blowing themselves up, is relatively easy when you are a detective?

Why haven’t picked up the culprit? Let’s see how they deal with this.

I’m afraid that this is obvious. Mugabe has lost. He knows it. His enablers don’t believe that they have lost. The bombs will be blamed on the MDC or other opposition parties. The military, paramilitary and police officials who hold power will seize control to prevent “terrorism”. Mugabe will be eased out of any power, although retained as a figurehead.

The bombings are the start of a coup d’ etat. The savagery that has been unofficial will become policy.

I hope i am wrong. But I firmly believe that a dark night of deliberate terror is about to descend. It has happened too often.

I like to think it’s just their store room, gone off by mistake… scene from a slapstick comedy routine? Perhaps that’s wishful thinking.

Infuriating that the report reminds us that “A spate of fire bombings occurred last year targetting police stations, with police blaming the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change party, which rejected the claims.”… but what they don’t say is that the case actually went to court and was totally dismissed for lack of evidence. The court judgement made it quite clear the MDC did not do any bombing and that it was a false-flag operation!

zanu does this on itself. they created a disgruntled dissident faction in matebeleland which later was joined by geniunely disgruntled zipra.

Bombs are zanu’s long tasted strategy. In Zambia Mozambique and on the daily news printers.

They still kid themslves by doing this in order to justify something akin to a state of emergency on us all.

robert said it very recently and even defined what it means, in the context of black market businesses, that they will lose freedom to trade and make any sound business decisions.

Another tired zanu ploy to justify further killings and persecutions.
