I am very concerned, and I think many others as well, about the blanket amensty idea. it is quite obvious that Mugabe and his fellow murderers know exactly what they have done and they fear the inevitable will happen when leadership changes.
I really hope you Sokwanele has the means to pass this msge to MDC:
Thousands of innocent people have been killed over a period of many years (from the Gukurahundi era to the time when the murderers stop). For MDC to accept (i hope they will not) this proposed idea would be unwise and taking the people of Zimbabwe for granted- just like Mugabe himself has done all along.
No one knows the exact number of slaughtered people since Mugabe’s rule beacuse some deaths have gone unreported.
I Think the decision to grant Mugabe and his Majors amnesty must come from the majority not just MDC negotiators. There should be some form of including povo yese, it could be a refurendum or a faster and cheaper way would be
to have independent teams go into provinces. Assign a team to each province and hold a meeting where they ask relatives of the killed people to bring death certificates of those they know were killed for political reasons and by Mugabe’s men. Those are the people who should decide.
If MDC leaves people out of this crucial decison making process, they are clearly announcing to us the majority, innocent and suffering that they are dictators worse than Mugabe.
Mbeki cold be pushing things to this direction to secure his bedfellow Mgabe but he should also be reminded of theses feelings that Zimbabweans share.

Of course, Mbwadhara has a very good point. In a sane world all atrocities should be investigated and punished accordingly. But sometimes one has to row with whatever oars you can find. The priority for the MDC is to obtain sufficient executive power to manage what has become a broken society, and to try to make it whole and prosperous again. This will also benefit the relatives of the abused, and, I am sure, be also a memorial to them.

The can never be a soluution in our homeland until all the perpetrators of violence are brought to book. We will only be postponing these problems but the people are tired of all this violence. Most Zimbabweans want some sort of closure on cases of their loved ones who perished at the hands of this evil and corrupt regime. They must pay!!
Another problem is that most people are concerned about is that Tsvangirai and co have conceded too much at these talks at the expense of the aspirations of the majority in our country.Mugabe lost the 29 March poll and so he has no conditions to give. He and his cronies must face justice for there to be lasting peace in Zimbabwe. If he persists in demanding special treatment the MDC must pull out of talks and we will see if he will last two months in power. The country is on its knees! Ngaatonge tione.

I agree totaly with you Mkaranga that unless we deal with these issues today, they will live to torment us, haunt the next generations…and they wil still have to address them to make peace with their own souls, those of the dead and Great Sprits of the land (if we in belive that).
a good example is the Gukrahundi masacres, people still ask that justice be done, bring the perpetrators to book. This is the part that makes me differ from True Gift.
We can not pretend that these things never took place. of course I understand his view that the nation needs to move forward but we can not do that by making blanket compromises. mugabe and his majors have done these ills knowingly, with the full intention of keeping themselves in power, enjoying the benefits of our sweat while everyone else died, suffered, went hungry, could not send childn; to school, dispalcemnt of families, youths turned into murderes, these are huge mountains of crimes to just be swept under a the carpet of a “negotiations-room” in pretoria. If mugabe thought he was innocent why is he demanding control of army and police in the current talks? he still wants to kill to protect himself and probably kill Tsvangirayi in the process. his majors are very keen to do this for him like they have always done and they also want their own protection. We need justice, Zim prisons are full now because even mugabe himself thinks there is need for justice (though his sense of it stinks!) lets give Tsvangiri a chance to start on a clean slate, we will judge them by their own mistakes under as a mixutre of rotten and fresh egg system.Mugabe had his chance by the way and he messed up.

From what I have gathered so far. We really need to pray as Biti has said.
The army, police, the CIO, the judiciary and legal and parliamentary affairs must NOT be run by zanu.
Anything besides this is a joke and a waste of time.
The little portfolios to be given to te MDC are meant to appease the international sponsors and attract their aid period!
Only to find ourselves at the mercy of the JOC and under a new guise of zanu dictatorship.
