Fuel crisis just gets worse and worse
June 14th, 2005
A policeman confirmed that the fuel situation in Matabeleland is chronic and that there is no resolution in sight. The fuel queues are now a big probl
em (some people just leaving their cars parked in a queue for days in hope of a delivery).
The police are apparently going to soon start cracking down on fuel queues. I was told that there will supposedly be 5 garages in Bulawayo who will be issued fuel. Each car in the queue will be given 10 litres and told to get off the street. Any cars found left standing on the street will be impounded, or “dealt with”.
I was told by a different source that there are no fuel tankers available to import fuel. Apparently they are being held up at the fuel depots and not allowed to drop their loads. If this is true, I wonder why.
