Which action idea would you like to work on first? Vote here.

November 23rd, 2008

Thanks for the response to our post titled “Do you have ideas for things we can all do to make a difference? Start here.” In that post we invited you to submit suggestions and we said:

This is a post where you tell us what you think YOU can work towards achieving, with the support of others, within the context of the networking and debate opportunities provided by this blog and the Sokwanele website.

This is not a place to tell us all the things that you think other people should be doing.

Think about what is realistically achievable and outline why your idea is so important in the context of the struggle.

The poll below draws out five ideas. Please use it to vote on the action idea you would like to focus on first. (For more detail behind the ideas, please read the comments left here). Keep in mind that all of these ideas will grow and evolve as you begin work on them: they are starting points.

Once you have voted, please can you register your interest in networking with others by filling  in this form here.

There were other very good ideas put forward, and a couple of them overlap projects Sokwanele is working on setting up already (for example, we will soon be going live with a project to monitor  the political parties’ compliance with the terms and conditions agreed to in the 15th September Agreement). Thank you for participating.

Very best wishes for your campaign. Will it have a name? Will it be for ‘freedom,’ or will it be for ‘peace’? A ‘peace’ campaign will attract many; a ‘freedom’ campaign will attract only the brave.

Where are your intellectuals? Your philosophers? Your respected judges? Your thinkers? Where are their conferences, their symposiums, their students, their books and their deep knowledge of human history?

Where are your churchmen? Where are their layity? Their sermons, their choirs? What songs do they sing; what prayers do they ask of God?

Do you have a symbol, one that no one else in Zimbabwe is using? Do you have a motto, unique to your campaign?

Who will take a blow to the head, and refuse to return it? Who will make the family of a policeman his best friends? Who will thank an army trooper for protecting the Zimbabwe people against foreign threats?

Who will stand, instead of kneeling? Who will walk, instead of sitting? Who is an Optimist, instead of being a Pessimist? Who will work, instead of loafing?

Who is self-reliant, instead of depending on others? Who will lead, instead of following? Who loves freedom, and hates slavery?

Very best wishes for your campaign.
