The meeting culminated in a demonstration that saw students marching to the Vice Chancellor’s office Professor Levy Nyagura to seek audience on the state of affairs at the University. The students vowed to resist paying fees in foreign currency as the college adminstration is proposing. The situation at the University remains tense as armed riot police officers with, AK47 assault rifles, dogs and Israeli water cannons are camped on campus to instill fear in the students.

The students will not be intimidated by such acts of cowardice by the regime, no amount of gunfire and tear gas smoke will stop the students from reclaiming their birthright. We are going to fight relentlessly until our demands are met. The campaign against dollarisation of education has gained momentum and is spreading to other regions as soon as colleges and schools open.

Dollarisation is inevitable until the political impasse is broken. What is required is a banking system and an exchange rate that will result in a situation where business confidence is restored and formal emplyment can start once again. Until we get rid of the current parallel market that suffocates legitimate business there is no Hope for the ZIM dollar. As the students campaign for the use of the ZIM dollar how much will be the fees, and how will they get their money from the bank where there is no cash? Foolish demostrations do not lead us anywhere. Any collective action must be calculated for it to bear the required results. We need a new governor of the Central Bank and committed (Capable)Leadership to get us out of this mess.

That is why, the above writer is a nationalist. You want to blame the parallel market for the current woes but I will ask you a question, what caused it? Who is driving it? You want us to address the effect of a cause, is it? The truth is that yes dollarisation is iminent but let these universities charge reasonable fees not to rip us. Look you do not expect a peasant farmer in Rushinga, Mt darwin, Uzumba with only 2 donkeys as his/her wealth to raise USD650 to sent their children to school. Besides Gono has not given the leeway to companies to pay their employees in forex but still expect the same to buy goods and pay fees in forex, how stupid. State Universities are meant for poor citiizens to acquire knowledge. If we can afford USD650the we can afford our children to attend to Universities in SA or anywhere n the world. This demonstration is noble and we should all partake in it.
