Africa’s ‘Pol Pot’ should be referred to as Africa’s Pol Pot-hole!

Pothole fishing

I found this image on Google images and it has been attributed to various different places around the world. I hunted it out because there was a time when it was circulated by email widely in Zimbabwe and I thought then that it was a Zimbabwean image. We laughed then because it poked fun at the potholes coming up on all our roads. I was reminded of it today when a friend told me about some poor guy’s pothole experience today.

Apparently one of his friends was driving to work this morning when they came accross a mini that had literally been swallowed up by a pothole on one of the main roads into town.

The fit was so tight that the driver couldn’t open his door to get out his car. Nor could they attach ropes to the car to tow it out of the hole it had got itself into. In the end they got together a group of men who had to stand around the mini and literally lift it out – vertically up and over – from the hole.

The other ‘joke’ I heard today was that the government has reduced VAT from 17.5% back to 15%. Do they really expect us to believe that things are getting better or that the costs of goods on the shelf are getting cheaper? So, for the general consumer, 2.5% off VAT combined with approx. 400% inflation = what discount? Fools.
