Roy Bennett remanded in custody until 4 March
MDC Treasurer General, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture designate, Roy Bennett has been remanded in custody to the 4th of March 2009. The Magistrate indicated that he would hear submission and arguments on whether or not to grant him bail tomorrow (Thursday 19 February 2009).
These delay tactics are merely intended to frustrate and harass Roy Bennett into submission. Roy Bennett remains steadfast that he will not be used as ransom and horse traded for any political convenience.
The inclusive government must give confidence to Zimbabweans that it respects citizens human rights. Roy Bennett must be released unconditionally immediately. (Via MDC Press Release)

As a sign of disapproval of an action taken against their own, I suggest all MDC deputy ministers to be sworn boycott their swearing in until their collegue in government is released. Can a stand-in be OK (the Monthahle way) for Bennet to take over after his release? I find this Bennet thing absolutely childish. Please God give him courage and resolve to be strong and calm, above all keep him safe.

The illegal arrest and detention of Roy Bennett has only raised his profile and made him even more electable in the future. It has been said that the worst thing Zanu pf could have ever done was to arrest and beat up Morgan Tsvangarai. By doing this they (Zanu pf) created a martyr out of the man and the result was they lost the general election and presidential election to him. I do believe that the short sightedness and impulsive, irrational behaviour of the JOC in this matter will ultimately hurt them more in the long run. As the adage goes: “The wise learn from the mistakes of others while fools repeat them. Idiots, on the other hand, repeat their own stupid mistakes.”
Furthermore if any harm is to come of Roy then a few bashed up shops in Mutare will be the least of the security chiefs worries.

I agree, the MDC should be more forceful and demand action from Motlanthe and his useless crew to put an end to these JOC fools and their shenanigans.
Or does Morgan know something that we don’t?

Dear Friends, I’m asking you to take 2 minutes of your time to add your valuable voice to my petition to FREE ROY BENNETT, a personal friend of mine.
