RETURN OF JUDAS ISCARIOT!

AS ZVIDZAI COURTS ZANU PF AND CIO TO STAY IN OFFICE

In a move likely to shock Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) President Morgan Tsvangirai, his erstwhile confidante Sessel Zvidzai, the embattled incumbent Executive Mayor of the City of Gweru has nicodemously approached high ranking rival ZANU PF and feared CIO Operatives in a desperate bid to stay in office.

Zvidzai, who for long has been suspected to be CIO’s inside man in MDC has of late been spotted consorting with known State security agents, some of whom openly claim to have Gweru City Council under lock and key. In a related development, Zvidzai who in the past had no kind words for local ZANU PF officials, has completed a somersault and has been seen cavorting with his rivals, which in MDC circles is viewed as political adultery.

Insiders say Zvidzai is sitting on a hot plate following seething grumblings within the general MDC members who are not impressed by the Mayor’s handling of Council issues, particularly the tragic decline in service delivery.

Said one Mkoba resident, “Zvidzai is digging his own grave by not repairing potholes in this area”.

Meanwhile, Zvidzai seems to have cracked under relentless attacks by his MDC nemesis Patrick Kombayi. Kombayi, who is the first black Mayor of Gweru and flamboyant businessman, has never made any attempt to mask his naked desire to see Zvidzai out of office.

On his part, Kombayi is banking on his popularity amongst Mkoba, Mambo and Mtapa residents to boot out Zvidzai who is perceived by the urban poor as arrogant, elitist and ZANU PF.

Local residents have not forgiven Zvidzai for borrowing massively from First Bank Corporation (FBC) to buy luxurious vehicles at the expense of service delivery and payment of wages to desperate Council workers.

Observers argue that Zvidzai has fallen into the pitfall often reserved for ZANU PF officials, in true “Absolute power corrupts absolutely” fashion. One councillor who chose to remain anonymous accused Zvidzai of sitting on a cesspit of corruption, self-aggrandizement, chicanery and abuse of Council resources, which will accelerate economic and social implosion. In a Nutshell, Zvidzai has stopped even pretending being an MDC ambassador.

However, Zvidzai’s treacherous supping with ZANU PF officials and CIO Operatives is a stinging slap in Tsvangirai’s face. Interestingly, Tsvangirai is on record for saying that the MDC has been infiltrated by the CIO. Little did he know that his confidante and pointman in Gweru would give him the Judas kiss!

Yet this political adultery is not new! Remember Sekesai Makwavarara of Harare? Zvidzai’s latest behaviour echoes the tricks of Makwavarara who jumped ship from MDC and is now supping with the ZANU PF fatcats. This sounds like a nightmare coming true.

Talk about chemistry! Cynics seem not surprised by Zvidzai’s chasing with the hounds and running with the hares-after all the Mayor holds degrees in Chemistry. But to panelbeat a marriage with ZANU PF? Time will tell.

In the meantime, any sane MDC supporter will see Zvidzai for what he is. JUDAS ISCARIOT!
