Roy Bennett expected to be released tomorrow
Following the earlier news that Roy Bennett has been granted bail, we’ve received more information that he is expected to be released from Mutare Prison tomorrow. The BBC has more on his bail conditions:
“The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal by the state against the High Court decision to grant him bail,” Mr Bennett’s lawyers Beatrice Mtetwa told the AFP news agency.
“But the Supreme Court has changed the bail conditions. He now should pay $5,000 instead of $2,000 granted by the High Court. He has to report three times weekly to the police instead of twice,” she said.
Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku also ordered the surrender of his passport and title deeds for his house, she stated.
