Roy Bennett to appear in court tomorrow
March 17th, 2009
Via MDC Press Release — MDC Treasurer General, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture designate, Hon Roy Bennett will appear in the Mutare Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Wednesday 18 March 2009. After having spent almost a month in Mutare remand prison, Hon Bennett was released on bail on the 12th of March 2009, after the Supreme Court threw out an appeal by the Attorney General against two High Court orders, ordering the release of Hon Roy Bennett.
Earlier today, three men visited the property Roy Bennett gave as his place of residence in court papers. They interrogated people on the property, asking them how Roy Bennett was making a living. We have consistently stated that the case against Roy Bennett is vindictively and maliciously politically motivated. The use of quasi and extra-judicial measures before the release of Roy Bennett on bail is indicative of mafia style tactics of those that wish to pursue Roy Bennett personally, and also want to see the collapse of the Inclusive Transitional Government.
As there is no basis at law for the case against Roy Bennett, and all other political ‘accused’ persons, we demand that the charges be dropped.
Let it be known that Hon Roy ‘Pachedu’ Bennett is the MDC, and the people of Zimbabwe’s choice for Deputy Minister of Agriculture. It is inconceivable that this position will change. The announcement by President Tsvangirai, on behalf of the MDC, nominating Hon Roy Bennett as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, and Hon Roy Bennett acceptance of the same, settled the matter beyond dispute.

The new inclusive Government must restore the rule of law in Zimbabwe if it is to have any meaningful existence at at all in the affairs and progress of this beleaguered country. The growing and producing season awaits, but the number of productive farms has dwindled compared to former times, and further farm invasions has meant that even people who planted crops will not be allowed to complete the season and reap the results.
A situation where some senior Zanu official can simply give anyone the right to invade a thriving farming business, evict the owner on the spot, take possession of a cherished homestead, its crops, equipment and livestock that have taken a lifetime of hard work to establish, is pure anarchy and is a lasting disgrace on the dignity and integrity of the nation.

Recent pictures and articles relating to the health of our President suggest he has a limited time left on this planet. Personally I can’t wait for the day when this evil toad of a human being meets his maker. While he has gorged himself on his country, beaten and subdued all opposition, killed and maimed tens of thousands, his people have starved and died, sometimes screaming in agony. Now he wants unity with Tsvangerai who has constantly broken his word to people like me, his supporters. Let him have that unity, but beware Mr Prime Minister, he who sits down to dine with crocodiles inevitably becomes the main course.
As for Tendai Biti who proffers the ever open hand of the Zimbabwean to prospective European Financiers, how can your Government allow the forcible, violent and illegal eviction of the European farmers where their very race is the same to whom you appeal?
How sad that the general IQ level of those in power has sunk to such an idiotic degree.
The combined wealth of Mugabe, Mnungagwa, Sekeremayi, Chiwenga, Shiri,Makoni Bredenkamp, Chihuri, Mujuru and others, wealth that was made from the suffering of the people of the DRC and Zimbabwe, wealth that was made in shady deals, while eyes were turned could solve the country’s problems overnight and yet it is lost forever. The MDC will never press for repatriation of foreign assets, because they don’t have the spine and their miserable jobs are at stake. While the Assistant Deputy Secretary drives his C class Government Benz around Harare, the povo in the same streets are starving. Two million orphans, over two million torture victims and tens of thousands butchered in the name of freedom . Shame on you Zanu PF and now shame on you MDC! Your time of judgement will come and your guilt will be plain for all to see and when Zimbabwe embraces transparency, judges the guilty and begins to make reparations to those who have suffered only then will my country be free again. If the government does not respect SADC tribunal on land how then is it going to respect the repayment for the loan from SADC?Come tme for repayment, we shall hear that it was not binding.
Biti don’t say you are beginning to understand mugabe. Mugabe is a hypocrite, come elections, his violent machinery will be back. Mugabe will never compromise on power-ever-ever.
