Senator Roy Bennett has been remanded, on bail, to the 1st of July 2009. The Attorney General’s office undertook to provide a trail date on or before the 1st of July 2009, failing which Senator Bennett would be removed from remand.
Instead of Senator Bennett reporting to Harare Central police station three times a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, bail conditions were relaxed, and he is to report only on Fridays.
Via MDC-T Press Release — MDC Treasurer General, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture designate, Senator Roy Bennett will again appear in the Mutare Magistrate Court, having being remanded, on bail to today, 21 April 2009.
The long delays in Senator Bennett trumped up charges amount to harassment of Senator Roy Bennett by a section driven by vindictive motives, and determined derail the Inclusive government.
The charges against Senator Bennett have no basis at law and are trumped up. These charges must be dropped immediately. Well known attempts to fabricate ‘evidence’ are malicious, and will be exposed. Senator Bennett remains the undisputed choice of the MDC for the post of Deputy Minister of Agriculture. Such appointment can not be put into question by anyone as it is the exclusive decision of the MDC.
It is time the Inclusive government deals, with satisfactory finality, with all outstanding issues, including the swearing in of Senator Roy Bennett as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
