Trying to survive
A friend of mine used to work as a male nurse in Zimbabwe until the family he worked for were forced to seek better treatment overseas. He does not have a passport and has now tried four times in one week to get across the border at Beitbridge. Each time, after bribing the Zimbabwe Customs and Immigration, the SA road block caught him on the road to Messina. He told me that friends of his have said it is easier now to hide under the bucksail of the big trucks as they cross with goods for South Africa. However, he did not know how to do this so waited until dark and crossed over the old bridge underneath in the sel work and managed to get across undetected.
All I can think is that he is now now an illegal and trying to get a job to send money back his family in Zimbabwe. He hopes to be able to send them about R500 per month. He said that if he can’t achieve this then he is certain that his family will starve as no one else has a job. The pressure is on for him to get work immediately because his family’s rent is due at the end of the October, and no one has money to pay. The family fear eviction by the council. This is what many Zimbabweans are facing.

Hello from Singapore!
It upsets me to read your posts on Zimbabwe. But I learn more about the country & its people. Thanks.
Best wishes.
