Tendai Biti’s aide attacked, MDC claims

August 2nd, 2009

Tendai BitiTendai Biti’s aide was attacked on Saturday at Biti’s home. This is according to the Earthtimes:

An aide of Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister and deputy leader of the former opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Tendai Biti, was attacked Saturday at the minister’s residence, the party claimed. According to an MDC statement, soldiers “brutally assaulted” Howard Makonza, an aide of Biti. Makonza was taken to hospital for treatment.

While an MDC official claimed they had lodged a police report, Wayne Bvudzijena, Zimbabwe police spokesperson, said he had not received any such report.

“I am not aware of such an incident. Normally it is difficult for such a thing to happen as there is usually tight security at (a) minister’s residence,” said Bvudzijena.

The alleged attack took place while Biti was in South Africa on business.

The Zimbabwean newspaper is alleging that,

The perpetrator is  believed to be one R. Mwanza who guards the house of Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army, Lt-Gen Philip Sibanda.

Last week the MDC-T circulated a Press Release saying that Tendai Biti had received a letter with a live bullet in it.

The letter was delivered at the MDC Secretary-General’s home in Highlands and a police report has been lodged at Harare Central police station.

The letter accompanying the bullet was inscribed “Raira nhaka” (Sort out your Estate), which is an apparent death threat to Hon Biti, who is also the Minister of Finance.

This is a bad sign, but tyrants do not give up power without a fight, and Zimbabwe is no different. The first step is to get the police to acknowledge the incident and confirm the report. Somehow, law and order has got to be directed to the side of righteousness. It’s nothing less than laying the foundations for a new society. a society of truth and honour.

Zanu-PF have plotted to ruin many lives, but one day, perhaps in a year or two, there will be a victory and a just state in Zimbabwe. V-Day for everyone, and a Zimbabwe that everyone wants and admires.
