The status quo in Zim will not change ubtil the people change their mindset, even if mugabe vanished off the face of the earth, who would replace him? Would that person ensure a consistent and on going colour blind democracy where apartheid as practised by the communist ANC does not exist. Will the people cease this reliance on the "west" and sort out their own futures without the necessity for loans and charity. Will the people abandon discrimination on party or tribal allegiances.
Mugabe will go, of that you can be certain, but what then? celebrate for a week and then return to the destroyed country with another undemocratic, uncaring and indifferent petty dictator kicking you in the rear and making your life hell?

We must remember that Thabo Mbeki spent his last few years before the South African Independence sheltered by Mugabe in Zimbabwe. I was in Bulawayo then witnessing the atrocities of Mugabe in Matabeleland.
The word 'makwerekwere' did not exist when I was growing up in Mophaneni, so my grandfather who had a brother in Botswana used to visit him nilly willy just as my grandfather in Botswana visited us willy nilly. This means we have to go back to basics - reality - humanity and identify the cause of our division today! The master who has brought this division among black Africans is one - be it in Botswana, Zimbabwe or South Africa - his name is - Neo-liberal agendas/Capitalism. I see it in the UK and the world round.

I do not know what I would do if I were in Zimbabwe today. But one thing I know for a fact is that I would not go into prostitution. And I also know that I would fight back by any means necessary. So, for people like Chipo, my heartfelt advise is 'get up, stand up and fight.' You may die fighting Mugabe, but you may also die from AIDS whilst prostituting yourself.
My last trip to Joburg in April 07 gave me hope. As I walked up and down the streets in Hillborough and Berea - I saw women and men trying to make ends meet selling vegetables and macimbi from Zimbabwe. When I spoke to some of them - all talked about going back home one day!

Zimbabweans put Mugabe into power - Zimbabweans will remove Mugabe from power!
Reply to this comment --- <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('78897','floence durrant','We must remember that Thabo Mbeki spent his last few years before the South African Independence sheltered by Mugabe in Zimbabwe.
"atrocities perpetrated by former Rhodesian leader Ian Smith’s repressive regime"

Perhaps the author of this comment would care to elaborate on these atrocities and those carried out by the so called Freedom fighters of Zanu/Zipra and Zapu.

Compare if you will, the number of atrocities carried out by those forces on the black population with the number carried out upon the White population.

Atrocities were attributed to the Selous Scouts but these were the work of the terrorist groups.
Reply to this comment --- <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('78573','Hunyani','\"atrocities perpetrated by former Rhodesian leader Ian Smith’s repressive regime\"\r\n\r\nPerhaps the author of this comment would care to elaborate on these atrocities and those carried out by the so called Freedom fighters of Zanu\/Zipra and Zapu.\r\n\r\nCompare if you will, the number of atrocities carried out by those forces on the black population with the number carried out upon the White population.\r\n\r\nAtrocities were attributed to the Selous Scouts but these were the work of the terrorist groups.'); return false;">Quote from this comment
