A very good question : Why Democracy?

Why Democracy?

Why Democracy? Is the biggest factual media event in the history of the world.

October, 2007: Ten documentaries. Twenty-two short films. Over 30 national broadcasters. Hundreds of millions of viewers.

Democracy promises freedom, peace and prosperity. It promises its citizens rights, a voice and a vote. But can it live up to its promises? Today, some people fight for democracy, while others take it for granted. But why democracy? What’s so great about it? Just because it’s popular, does that make it good?

Share your photos of democracies, democratic institutions, protests, votes. Show us how you’ve documented democracy’s flaws and benefits.

Sokwanele is looking forward to participating in the Why Democracy? project. We’ll be blogging there all day Monday 15th; please swing by to check it out.
