ZEC: Final results for the House of Assembly
The ZEC has finally announced results for 207 constituencies. The remaining three constituencies (out of the 210 that exist) will be determined by by-elections following the deaths of three candidates prior to the March 29th elections: Pelandaba/Mpopoma, Gwanda South, and Redcliff .
In announcing these figures, the ZEC corrected their earlier figures for Kambazuma:

In addition to this, the ZEC reported that they had attributed Binga South to the wrong party - to MDC when it should have been to MDC Tsvangirai.
The final count is as follows: MDC Tsvangirai leads with 99 seats; Zanu PF has 97 seats; MDC Mutambara has 10 seats; and Jonathan Moyo has his one seat.

Zimbabweans still have their precious sense of humour - inspite of inflation!
Jonothan Moyo, who stood as an Independent, has won his seat in Tsholotsho North! I just want to know how that happened. Perhaps he talked all the Moyo’s in Tsholotsho into believing that they are indeed his kith and kin and that he will return the favour… or perhaps, no one else contested in that province … or, maybe it was the heat, nenzara (hunger)! Well, whatever the reason, that you people of Tsholotsho for being true to your humourous side - you too like Jona are “UNBELIEVABLE”

Your post states that

Yet the pie chart underneath shows the Zanu PF holding 45.9% and MDC Tsvangirai holding only 42.8%..
I think there’s a mistake somewhere..

TE..the pie chart is a share of the total votes, not a breakdown of the seats won. We can only assume that more people have ‘voted’ for mugabe than the MDC, but the MDC have won more seats.

Zanu PF won more votes than parliamentary seats because they stuffed boxes with ballot papers after having chased away opposion polling agents. Some of them even managed to vote twice. To the people of Zimbabwe, Mugabe will never rule again. Even if the run-off is confirmed, lets hit the last nail on his coffin

I suppose I must ask the obvious. What next? What is the possibility of violence should there be a run off and if there is a revolt of sorts, how will the MDC camp fair? I guess it’s no contest who has the big weapons.

If the MDC declined to particpate in the run off and Mugabe became President by default, could the MDC then hold, in the first sitting of the new Parliament, a vote of no confidence in President Mugabe or have him impeached for human rights abuses? It seems to me this could be a legal way of overcoming the problem. Would one of your legal boffins please explain the ramifications of going this route?
