[...] There are torture camps set by Mugabe supporters: In the Thursday edition of The Zimbabwean there were revelations that, “Militant supporters of President Robert have set up torture camps in parts of Mashonaland East province and stepped up a terror campaign against opposition activists in the province”. The reason for their deployment is to ensure a victory for Mugabe in their planned run-off election. Sokwanele is able to report that we are able to verify and endorse this information with a report leaked to us by a member of the defence forces. This was received yesterday. There are a variety of strategies being employed to hoodwink Zimbabweans, particularly those in the rural areas. What follows is a breakdown of the information we have received.
Cape Town - The recount in a number of constituencies in Zimbabwe is futile because ballot boxes have been tampered with, says a South African member of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) observer team.

"From what I have seen and experienced in Zimbabwe over the past three days, it is clear that the process of recounting the contested wards from the recent elections is fatally flawed," Democratic Alliance MP Dianne Kohler-Barnard said on Monday.

The process had been marred by delays, administrative problems and the clear political intent of blaming the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) for all the problems associated with the recount.

"Of particular concern was the evidence of ballot box tampering that I witnessed personally, which points to a concerted effort to rig the election results in order to bring about a Mugabe 'victory'," she said in a statement.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('198437','John.C'); return false;">Reply to this comment</a> --- <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('198437','John.C','Cape Town - The recount in a number of constituencies in Zimbabwe is futile because ballot boxes have been tampered with, says a South African member of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) observer team.\r\n\r\n\"From what I have seen and experienced in Zimbabwe over the past three days, it is clear that the process of recounting the contested wards from the recent elections is fatally flawed,\" Democratic Alliance MP Dianne Kohler-Barnard said on Monday.\r\n\r\nThe process had been marred by delays, administrative problems and the clear political intent of blaming the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) for all the problems associated with the recount.\r\n\r\n\"Of particular concern was the evidence of ballot box tampering that I witnessed personally, which points to a concerted effort to rig the election results in order to bring about a Mugabe \'victory\',\" she said in a statement.'); return false;">Quote from this comment</a></div>

I'm really heart-broken about what's happening in Zimbabwe. The least I expected was to hear Mbeki declared the ammunition to kill our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe! How can that be possible? Thank God the workers unions declined to pass them on. I'm telling you guys (Zimbs), we have you in our prayers, and when 2 or 3 agree on something here on earth, it 'll be done in heaven. Your liberation is at hand.
I'm not surprised about the manipulation of the ZEC at all. The members are appointed by Mugabe and the people who help him make that decision (the judicial branch) are also appointed by Mugabe. I cannot possibly see how anyone would think that they're independent. Remember, this was the group that Thabo Mbeki had faith in. He obviously hasn't done enough research.

In some ways it shows that Mugabe is (at least slightly) desparate because he has to use those tactics to retain his hold on the country, instead of relying on good old-fashioned policies.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('192933','David Morris'); return false;">Reply to this comment</a> --- <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('192933','David Morris','I\'m not surprised about the manipulation of the ZEC at all.
Campaign of the day?

Stop the bullets reaching Zimbabwe? And put pressure on the SADC leaders meeting in Mauritius to ask questions about this.

I picked up a report that SA government will ship the munitions in using their arms company.

We need to pile on the pressure today to stop this happening.
