Zimbabwe’s run-off election set for June 27

In an interview with Channel Africa, the chairperson of the Zimbabwe’s Electoral Commission (ZEC), Judge George Chiweshe, says the run-off election will now be held on June 27.
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, the leader since independence in 1980, and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader Morgan Tsvangirai, are due to square off again after neither achieved over 50% of the vote needed for outright victory in the elections at the end of March.
Earlier this week the ZEC said the run-off could be delayed until the end of July.

Hello, just a thought. Maybe we have the US to thank for an early election date?
In April (I think), I remember reading in the press that the US gave Mbeki an ultimatim on Zim. They were pressuring Mbeki to do something about Zim and Mbeki said somthing like “it’s all under control, it will all be over by June”. The US responded by giving Mbeki until June to sort Zim out and if not, they would whisper in the right ears and stop SA hosting the soccer cup in 2010.
Maybe magabe wanted the re-run in august but mbeki has made him bring it forward to june - SA would be devasted to loose the world soccer cup!

Mbeki deserves no credit
Mbeki is responsible for worsening the Zim situation and the situation is now OUT OF CONTROL.
