Law Society of Zimbabwe: Model Constitution of Zimbabwe (2010)
  1. The family in all its forms is the fundamental unit of society and is entitled to protection by the State.
  2. Each member of a family is entitled to full and equal recognition and must be protected by law against all forms of neglect, cruelty or exploitation.
  3. Everyone who has attained the age of eighteen years has the right to marry and found a family, and no such person may be prevented from entering into marriage.
  4. No one may be compelled to enter into marriage against their will.

  1. The State must protect and foster the institution of the family as the basic unit of society and must take appropriate measures to ensure that everyone's right to found a family is recognised.
  2. In particular, the State must endeavour, within the resources available to it, to adopt measures to–
    1. provide care and assistance to mothers, fathers and other family members who have charge of children; and
    2. prevent domestic violence.

  1. The family in all its forms is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.
  2. Each member of the family is entitled to full and equal respect and must be protected by law against all forms of neglect, cruelty or exploitation.
  3. Every man and woman, who has attained the age of eighteen years, has the right to marry and found a family and no person may be forced to enter into marriage or be prevented from entering into marriage.
